what is the whole matter
In fact, a journalist from a private TV channel had asked Siddaramaiah whether a Lingayat community leader should become the chief minister. On this, Siddaramaiah said that ‘there is already a Lingayat chief minister….but he is the root of all corruption’.
BJP surrounded
On this statement of Siddaramaiah, Karnataka BJP surrounded him. The BJP shared the video clip of Siddaramaiah’s statement on its official Twitter handle and wrote that ‘It is unforgivable that a person who is trying to divide the community is now saying that the community is corrupt!’ BJP leaders have called it an insult to the entire Lingayat community.
Siddaramaiah gave clarification
Siddaramaiah has clarified his statement after the controversy over the statement and BJP’s attempt to make it an election issue. He said that he was calling Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai as corrupt, who believes in corruption. I have great respect for Veerashaiva Lingayats and we have given more than 50 tickets to Lingayats. The former CM said that the BJP is distorting his statement and wants to create controversy with it. The BJP, on the other hand, says that Siddaramaiah wants to take political advantage by insulting a community. Siddaramaiah had earlier tried to divide the Veerashaiva-Lingayat community.
