Punjab: High Court issues notice to Ministry of External Affairs on Daler Mehndi’s petition

Renowned Punjabi singer Daler Singh Mehndi has filed a petition in the Punjab-Haryana High Court for renewal of his passport. On the petition, the High Court has issued a notice to the Ministry of External Affairs seeking its reply. In the petition, Daler Mehndi told the High Court that he has to attend a program going to be organized abroad. His passport is valid only till March 16 and has applied for its renewal at the local passport office and it is yet to be decided.

The petitioner has appealed to the High Court to issue an order for renewal of his passport. The High Court, while hearing the petition, said that his application is pending with the Union Ministry of External Affairs/Regional Passport Officer of Delhi and he has not been made a party in the petition, so first he should be made a party in this petition. On this, Daler Mehndi’s lawyer asked for some time and the High Court gave him two weeks’ time. While hearing on Monday, the High Court issued a notice to the Union Ministry of External Affairs and ordered it to file its reply by February 2.

Last year, Daler Singh Mehndi was arrested on charges of human trafficking. Was sentenced to three years. The High Court suspended the sentence in September 2022 and granted him bail.
