India’s experienced batsman KL Rahul has been rested for the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand. He is playing in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. He was not kept in the T20 squad. Even the vice-captaincy of limited overs has been taken away from Rahul. Hardik Pandya has taken his place.
He is captaining the T20 team in the absence of Rohit Sharma. Rahul is now only the vice-captain in Tests. Despite this, Lucknow Super Giants coach Andy Flower feels that Rahul can prove to be the best captain of India.
Rahul has captained Team India in seven ODIs, three Tests and one T20 match. He was touted as the successor to Rohit Sharma, but his lack of consistency with the bat cost him. Hardik Pandya, who made Gujarat Titans champions in IPL, replaced him. Flower said that Rahul has excellent batting skills and can lead the team well.
Flowers met Rahul in Trivandrum
The Lucknow Super Giants coach said, “KL is a fantastic batsman. I have always loved watching him bat. I first met him while coaching the England Lions. We played against India A in Trivandrum, so I have been following him as a batsman since then.” The Zimbabwe veteran also praised Rahul’s captaincy.

Flower said, “He is a really good captain. He is very calm and composed. I respect him and really enjoy working with him.” Under Rahul’s captaincy, the Lucknow Super Giants team reached the IPL playoffs last year.
Like Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer When asked about the players, Flower said, “From what I know about him (Rahul), I can say that he will be a great captain. I don’t know other people very well, so can’t comment on them. The selectors see it.”
