Karnataka is building dams on tributaries
Goa and Karnataka are at loggerheads over the diversion of the Mahadayi river. For this, Karnataka wants to build a dam on Kalasa and Banduri, tributaries of Mahadayi river. The Goa government says that the river passes through the Mahadayi Wildlife Sanctuary, located downstream in North Goa.
Because of this Karnataka cannot divert the flow of Mahadayi river. Recently, the Center has approved a Detailed Project Report (DPR) submitted by the Karnataka government for the construction of two dams.
