De Villiers scored 5162 runs in 184 IPL matches at an average of 39.71. These include three centuries and 40 half-centuries. Despite his brilliant batting, he could never make RCB the champion. Former South African batsman AB de Villiers is considered one of the best players in the world.
Apart from several records in international cricket, de Villiers has created millions of fans in the Indian Premier League (IPL). This batsman, popularly known as Mr. 360, took his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to new heights with his strong hitting.
Despite his strong record, former India opener Gautam Gambhir is not happy. He says that de Villiers has batted only for his record. De Villiers started his IPL career in 2008 with Delhi Daredevils.
Then moved to RCB in 2011. He then scored 4522 runs at a strike rate of 158.33 and became the second highest run scorer for Bangalore. He had retired in 2021.
Earlier, de Villiers had scored two centuries and 37 half-centuries for RCB. Talking about his overall record, de Villiers scored 5162 runs in 184 IPL matches at an average of 39.71. These include three centuries and 40 half-centuries.
Former India batsman and two-time IPL champion Gautam Gambhir expressed his opinion on de Villiers. He said that in his decade-long career with RCB, de Villiers has only managed to achieve individual records.
Gambhir told Star Sports that if someone had played like AB de Villiers for 8-10 years in a smaller ground like the Chinnaswamy Stadium, his strike rate would have been the same. Suresh Raina has four IPL trophies and De Villiers holds the individual record.
Gambhir made Kolkata champion twice
Gambhir started his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils in 2008 and then moved to Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011 as captain. He then went on to lead the Kolkata-based franchise to two titles in 2012 and 2014 respectively after defeating Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings in the finals. The former India opener has scored 4218 runs in 154 IPL matches with 36 fifties.
