Electricity workers strike ends after 64 hours in UP, decision after meeting with Energy Minister

After talks with Energy Minister AK Sharma and Chairman M Devraj, the Sangharsh Samiti has announced to end the strike on Sunday afternoon. The Sangharsh Samiti and the Corporation will present their side in the High Court on Monday. After announcing the end of the strike, Energy Minister AK Sharma said that all the demands of the employees are being considered positively by the government.

The government was ready for talks earlier also and today’s talks have been positive. All employees are requested to return to work immediately. He assured that the action taken against the employees would be withdrawn through legal means. Sangharsh Samiti’s convenor Shailendra Dubey said that we do not want to harm the consumers at any cost. Employees will continue to fight for their rights, now assurance has been given to implement the agreement. Because of this the strike is being called off.

More than three thousand contract workers were dismissed
Due to the disruption in power supply due to the strike, the Power Corporation had suspended 16 executive engineers, junior engineers and SDOs and dismissed more than 3,000 contract workers in the state. A report was lodged against a total of 29, including 22 employee leaders, under the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA). At the same time, the strike was affecting various areas of the state including Purvanchal. In many places, the electricians had disappeared after shutting down the feeders. In such a situation, even after power generation, the supply system remained collapsed and the general public was suffering.
