In one of its important decisions, the Gauhati High Court has ordered the government to resettle 100 evicted families from Gorukhuti in Dhalpur. The High Court has given this order on the petition of Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia. Please tell that in the year 2021, the government started illegal construction in Gorukhuti of Dhalpur.
Had taken action against encroachment and removed illegal encroachment from thousands of bighas of agricultural land. During this violent clash, two people were killed and many policemen were injured. Around 700 families were displaced during this period. Out of these, the government has rehabilitated 600 families. Now the High Court has ordered the rehabilitation of the remaining 100 families as well.
The High Court, in its order, said that the government should set up an agricultural farm on the land freed from illegal encroachment. The court noted that Assam government’s counsel J Handik has told that around 700 families were affected, out of which 600 families have been resettled. The remaining 100 families are yet to be rehabilitated.
