Bengali detective storyteller found dead in Kolkata flat, say police

popular detective Bengali writer Sujan Dasgupta, the author of the character Akenbabu, was found dead at his residence in Kolkata on Wednesday. A family member gave this information. Dasgupta, 80, is survived by his wife, daughter and two grandchildren.

The police had to break open the door of her apartment in Survey Park area when there was no response from the maid when she came in the morning, the family member said. He informed the neighbors, who called the police.

a police officer said Dasgupta was found lying motionless on the floor near his bed. Later he was declared dead by the doctor. The author’s wife is in Santiniketan on a visit, while their daughter lives abroad. The officer said that the body has been sent for postmortem.
